Before your treatment session

Treatment will take place on a treatment table so please inform us if you have any mobility issues so that we can make arrangements to ensure that your treatment is comfortable. If people are unable to lie on a treatment table we can treat people in a seated position if they are unable to lie on a flat treatment table.

Please drink a glass of water prior to your treatment, this will help to keep you hydrated during treatment, and can make a significant contribution to the outcome of your treatment.

What happens during the session?

The Bowen Technique moves are  applied over light clothing, thick or heavy clothing, such as denim, is difficult to work through, and should not be worn to a treatment. You will be covered with some towels throughout your treatment, your therapist will move the towels to expose the areas he is working on while he makes the moves, and will then cover you up again.

Your therapist will speak to you regarding the reasons why you have chosen Bowen Therapy, your medical history and any medication you currently take. He will take notes during the consultation to which will remain confidential. An assesment of your posture and ranges of movement will also happen during the consultation

Before the treatment starts your therapist will discuss all moves to be made during the treatment, to ensure that you are comfortable with having work done in these areas. If you are not comfortable with any aspect of the proposed treatment, please inform the therapist  so that he can alter the treatment to suit you

Bowen Technique is suitable for everyone from birth to the elderly . Anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times during a treatment, without exception.

Most people find a Bowen Technique treatment to be a relaxing and enjoyable experience. Many people will feel like falling asleep. Please feel free to do so, as the therapist will tell you if he needs you to move. Other possible reactions during the treatment include a rumbling stomach, a sensation of heat in the areas being worked on or tingling in the arms or legs. Some people feel none of these things.

1 of the main features of a Bowen Technique treatment is that the therapist will leave the treatment room from time to time. This is to give your body a chance to begin to respond to the treatment. If you are uncomfortable being left alone in the treatment room, please inform the therapist and while he will still have breaks in the treatment, he can remain in the room.

A first Bowen Technique consultation and treatment will normally take around 1-1.5hours with subsequent treatments should taking around 45 minutes to an hour. It is best to have at least 3 treatment sessions in order for your body to respond to the treatment and each 1 should ideally be 1 week apart. Regular sessions are recommended after that in order to maintain a healthy body and mind.
